Chambly Canal-Richelieu River
It has been a couple days with no data and we are in Chambly Quebec tonight. We left Rouses Pt. NY with a strong wind blowing and it hasn't really stopped. The temperature and humidity are both around 90 so we are melting again. It is hard to sleep in an oven and there is only relief for about two hours each morning. Anyway, the scenery and people have been great. We visited Forts Lennox, Saint Jean, and Chambly. The French, British, and Americans had been fighting over this land back and forth for years and thankfully we are all friends now! This is beautiful country and the towns on this side of the border are lively and fun, compared to the ghost towns in NY. I am attempting to learn a few words and phrases in French, to the amusement of Allison. I went to the cinema last night and watched Pirates of the Caribbean in French. No one else wanted to see it in French so I enjoyed all 2 1/2 hours inside an air conditioned theater! I furthered my French interest by attending a French Catholic church today. I even sang along to the only words I knew......Alleluja, Alleluja, Alleluja! We have been sniffing out the French bakeries, bistros, ice cream stores, and coffee shops. Carrie and Allison had an awesome bike ride in Saint Jean on a double lane, one way, super slab, bike trail. The waterfront homes were amazing and hundreds of fisherman were attempting to catch a trophy in the river. We have been cruising along with our friends and enjoying the company. The Chambly locks are miniature in size and are operated by a hand crank. The canal is only 6.5 feet deep and only wide enough for one boat in much of its length. We had draw bridges and swing bridges to go through today. Frazier and Allison are constantly on a mission to find Wifi! It was a great father's day and I received perfect cards and an Instagram (what ever that is-dont have it on my phone) from Ellen. There is a threat of thunderstorms tonight and we just want it to cool down! Hopefully we will be in Montreal on Tuesday. À bientôt!
