New York Arrival

It was quite an exciting drive but we made it to NY in one piece. Day one was the longest at 795 miles. The next day we saw lots of black bear, bison, Caribou, elk, a coyote,  a red fox, and dozens of porcupine along the road. We ended up stuck in a freak snowstorm which dumped 14-16 inches of wet snow and made it extremely difficult to drive. I didn't think to bring a shovel to dig myself out of the 30" berm the snowplow sent into my Truck! 3rd day was snow and then heavy rain and wind making it too difficult to continue into Saskatoon so we camped in a convenience store parking lot. Day four was back in the states into ND when I literally was stopped due to billions of bugs that splattered the front of the truck so fast I could not see out of the windshield. Don't drive in ND in May when the sun goes down! Day 5 was beautiful in MN, WI, and upper MI. I saw the Great Lakes for the first time and they are awesome. The last leg of the drive was 610 miles back into Canada popping back into the US at Niagara Falls. This was a horrible drive when the GPS routed me through downtown Hamilton with lanes so narrow the boat had literally 2 inches from cars on either side for 5 miles. The really exciting part came 8 miles from my destination when the GPS routed me under an 11 foot high bridge. I went down a hill, around a corner, and there it was! I stepped hard on the brakes and there I was, stuck in the road! I jumped out, stopped traffic, and commandeered some help. I had to back up into the previous intersection and get directions on how to get out of my dilemma. 8 miles from the finish line and it almost ended horribly! But...I found my way to N Tonawanda and arrived in 5 days, 5 hours, 5 minutes total time from Palmer! Another milestone completed on this impressive journey!
